Special Rules for Discounts

DISCOUNT ON FOUR OR MORE LICENSES

The DNR offers a selection of licenses that cover more than the current license year. The DNR sets the discount for each license year and therefore the discount may vary between years. Licenses that will not be covered by this discount include, but are not limited to, any that require DMUs or the migratory bird survey.

SENIOR DISCOUNT

The fee for each senior license is reduced by 60% from the fee for the corresponding resident license.

JUNIOR OR YOUTH DISCOUNT

The fee for each junior license is reduced by 50% from the fee for the corresponding resident deer or fur harvester license. The youth angler license is set at $2.00. The junior small game license is set at $1.00.

MILITARY DISCOUNT

Persons serving in the U.S. Military, who, at the time of enlistment, were residents of Michigan and who have maintained resident status for the purposes of obtaining a driver license or voting and who are stationed outside the state, may purchase any hunting license that does not require a separate application for $1.00. The individual must present leave papers, duty papers, military orders or other evidence verifying that he or she is stationed outside the state, and a Michigan Driver License or voter registration. These licenses, available at all license agents and DNR Operations Service Centers, are valid for up to two weeks during the established season. The license buyer can designate the exact hunting period.

NOTE: A military person stationed in Michigan may purchase a resident license at any licensing agent location, regardless of residency status.

MICHIGAN RESIDENT VETERANS WHO HAVE A DISABILITY

A resident who has been determined by the U.S. Department of Veteran Administration to be permanently and totally disabled and entitled to veteran benefits at the 100% rate (with proof of same) is eligible to purchase ANY of the senior licenses. In order to prove your eligibility for the veterans discount you must obtain a letter from the Veterans Administration stating that you are totally and permanently disabled and eligible for benefits at the 100% rate. DNR will perform random audits to verify this information.

MICHIGAN RESIDENTS WHO ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

A resident who is declared legally blind may purchase a Senior Restricted or Senior All Species fishing license. DNR will perform random audits to verify this information.
