DNR Resident Recreation Passport
The $12 Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into more than 100 state parks and recreation areas, 140 state forest campgrounds, hundreds of miles of state trails, historic sites, family-friendly events, hundreds of boating access sites and other outdoor spaces.
Please display your valid Recreation Passport on motor vehicles, motorcycles or commercial motor vehicles. The resident passport is valid until the next vehicle plate renewal date.
The resident Recreation Passport can be purchased when renewing your license plate with the Secretary of State or at any staffed state park, recreation area or boat launch; however, a $5 convenience fee will be added. This is the same fee Secretary of State charges when a resident adds a Recreation Passport to a vehicle outside the annual registration renewal cycle.
The passport cannot be purchased online, since it’s tied to vehicle registration.
The proof of purchase is the two tiny "P"s printed at the top and bottom of your license plate tab, as well as the words "Recreation Passport" on your vehicle registration.
